Connecting Who: Artificial Beings by Peter Grehan
The Cybermen, the Weeping Angels, the Daleks… the artificial beings of Doctor Who are some of the most iconic in science fiction. But what inspired them?
Connecting Who traces their origins back to the myths, folktales and real events of history; the teachings of religion; not to mention the wealth of other sci-fi writing from which Doctor Who has drawn.
Peter Grehan has been an avid fan since Doctor Who’s very first broadcast. With him as your guide, explore the wealth of material which lies behind the longest running science fiction series of all time.
About the author
Between 1994 and 1997 Peter Grehan was chairman of the Welsh Speculative Writers Foundation, which published Beyond the Boundaries magazine and in that capacity he was a panellist at the European small press science fiction convention, held in Dublin (October 1997), and the UK Year of Literature and Writing 1995 Swansea arts festival .
In April 1999 he was commissioned by BBV Productions to write an audio script their first Sontaran story. He has tried various careers before finally deciding, in 2003, to go to University and gained a first class BSc (Hons) in Science and Science Fiction followed by a MA in Scriptwriting. Both degrees enabled him to put all those hours of watching and reading about Doctor Who to good use. He later lectured on the Science and Science Fiction degree, which meant he got paid for doing what came naturally; talking about science fiction.
